Mr. Retzner received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute , Indiana in May of 1990. From 1990 until 1995 Mr. Retzner was an officer in the United States Navy, including 3 1/2 years on board the nuclear submarine USS Alabama (SSBN-731). Mr. Retzner graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1998. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Retzner joined the firm of Krieg DeVault LLP.
Mr. Retzner's practice is concentrated in the areas of estate and business succession planning, probate administration and not-for-profit entities. In the practice of succession planning, Mr. Retzner has worked with many closely-held family businesses in order to assist in the transition of the business to future generations with the least amount of impact as possible from taxation as well as family relationships. Mr. Retzner's practice in the area of estate planning has included work with individuals with nominal estates up to individuals with close to a billion dollars in net worth. Mr. Retzner is a Board Certified Estate Planning and Administration Specialist. He is certified by the Indiana State Bar Association's Estate Planning and Administration Specialty Certification Board.
In the area of not-for-profit entities, Mr. Retzner has worked to form and achieve tax-exempt status for both private foundations and public charities. His work has also involved him with not-for-profits in the area of low-income housing.
