Roland Williams is the Senior Vice President Intellectual Property at Zi Corporation, a leading provider of embedded software technology and education products. Roland manages one of the most important Zi assets: its proprietary technology. He is responsible for assembling and directing the intellectual property portfolio for Zi.
Zi Corporation considers the development and protection of its intellectual property as key to its competitiveness. Roland and his team continually monitor the technical environment for potential opportunities and threats to the Zi intellectual property position. Working in tandem with the Zi legal team, Roland provides the technical analysis and assessment that is necessary to protect and develop intellectual property rights for Zi.
Roland is a professional engineer who holds a masters degree in semiconductor material science and a PhD in microwave engineering, with over 30 years experience in the wireless industry. Prior to joining Zi, Roland developed concept products for a cellular equipment manufacturer, produced the world's first three-channel portable cell site and created the first signal processing geophone for intelligent seismic survey.
Roland earned his PhD and masters degrees from UCNW Bangor. He is the named inventor on a number of patents granted in the United States and Europe. Roland has been an active Ham Radio operator in the UK, Canada and Hong Kong. In his spare time, he builds and repairs aircraft and is a certified flight instructor.
