Ronald D. Hackney is senior vice president, human resources, for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, a post he assumed in July 2003. He is an officer of the company. A 30-year veteran in human resource management, Hackney joined Smurfit-Stone�s predecessor company, Jefferson Smurfit Corporation, in 1976. From 1986 to 1995, he served as corporate labor relations manager, responsible for collective bargaining and related activities. Prior to that, he held regional human resource posts in the container and containerboard mill operations. Since 1995, he has served as human resource manager for the company�s Containerboard Mill division, where he made important contributions to improving the division�s safety performance and integrating the mill systems of Jefferson Smurfit Corporation, Stone Container and St. Laurent Paperboard. Hackney earned a BS degree from Berea College in 1968 and an MBA from Ball State University in 1979. In 1969 and 1970, he served with the US Army in Vietnam.
