Ronald Sigworth's practice involves litigation, patent prosecution and counseling. Mr. Sigworth's extensive litigation experience has involved a broad range of intellectual property issues including patent, trademark and copyright infringement, as well as unfair competition and breach of contract. His litigation experience includes several jury trials before federal district courts. He has participated in all aspects of litigation at the district court and appellate level including motion practice, briefing, oral argument, and the selection, preparation and defense of testifying expert and fact witnesses.
Mr. Sigworth also has substantial experience prosecuting patents and counseling clients. He has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the biomedical, mechanical and chemical technologies. His counseling experience includes rendering opinions on patentability and infringement, evaluating patent portfolios, and drafting technology transfer agreements in those same technologies, as well as in the optical and material science arts. Mr. Sigworth also teaches a patent law course at Catholic University Law School as an adjunct lecturer.
Before entering law school, Mr. Sigworth worked as a senior engineer at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft division of United Technologies Corporation where he designed turbine engine and rocket components for military jets, commercial aircraft and hypersonic spacecraft. Mr. Sigworth applied for and received two U.S. patents on his designs, thereby furnishing him with a unique perspective on the patent prosecution process as an inventor as well as a patent attorney.
