Roy A. Whitfield has served as a director since August 2000. Mr. Whitfield is chairman of the board of Incyte Genomics, Inc., a genomic information company that he co-founded in 1991. From June 1993 to November 2001, Mr. Whitfield was its chief executive officer. He also served as president of Incyte Genomics from June 1991 until January 1997 and as treasurer from April 1991 until October 1995. From 1984 to 1989, Mr. Whitfield held senior operating and business development positions with Technician Instruments Corporation, a medical instrumentation company, and its predecessor company, Cooper Biomedical, Inc., a biotechnology and medical diagnostics company. Prior to his work at Technicon, Mr. Whitfield spent seven years with the Boston Consulting Group international consulting practice. Mr. Whitfield received a B.S. in mathematics from Oxford University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
