Mr. Barwick recently completed a four year tenure as Executive Vice President & COO of Wheaton River Minerals and following the merger with Goldcorp Inc. he continued to hold the same position in the new and expanded group. As part of the small executive management team he was intimately involved in the significant acquisition and organic growth process of the Wheaton-Goldcorp group since early 2003.
He is a qualified Mining Engineer having graduated from the Ballarat School of Mines in Victoria Australia. With over 33 years experience in the mining industry he has worked extensively in Australia, Asia, the Americas and developing countries of the Western Pacific region.
Mr. Barwick has worked for Rio Tinto and for over 16 years with Placer Dome, where he became Managing Director of the then Placer business units in Papua New Guinea. He has, also in addition to many years in gold mining, extensive experience in the copper, uranium and coal sectors of the mining industry in roles including operations, project development, corporate development and corporate executive management. Prior to joining Wheaton in 2003, he was Managing Director and CEO of Newcrest Mining at that time the second largest gold mining company in Australia.
Mr. Barwick brings to Gammon the experience and skills to grow the company while maximizing the inherent value in the existing assets through optimization processes and organic growth. |
