COLLEGE: Sam Hurd ranked among the top five receivers in Northern Illinois history - second in career receiving yards (2,322), third in career receiving touchdowns (21) and tied for fifth in career receptions (143). He broke the single-game school record with 266 receiving yards against Central Michigan. Hurd was named Honorable Mention SportsIllustrated.com All-America and first-team coaches' All-Mid American Conference after his senior season. He started all 12 games and recorded 65 catches for 1,074 yards and 13 touchdowns. In his junior season, he played in 10 games and finished with 27 receptions for 298 yards and three scores. As a sophomore, he posted 29 catches for 438 yards and two touchdowns in 12 appearances with seven starts. Hurd played in 12 contests as a true freshman, earning two starts, finishing with 22 catches for 512 yards and three scores.
PERSONAL: Hurd earned several accolades after his prep career at Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he was a three-sport letterman. As a senior he had 60 receptions for 1,639 yards and 23 touchdowns as a wide receiver. He also lettered three years in basketball and two years in track. Hurd was a pre-communications major at Northern Illinois. |
