After attending Georgia Institute of Technology and serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Mr. Nunn received an A.B. degree from Emory University in 1960 and an L.L.B. degree from Emory Law School in 1962. He practiced law and served in the Georgia House of Representatives before being elected to the United States Senate in 1972, where he served as the chairman and ranking member on both the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations before retiring in 1997. He served as a partner at King & Spalding from 1997 through 2003. Mr. Nunn is a distinguished professor at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech. He is also a director of Chevron Corporation, The Coca-Cola Company, Dell Inc. and Internet Security Systems, Inc. He is the co-chairman and C.E.O. of the Nuclear Threat Initiative and also the chairman of the board of The Center for Strategic and International Studies. |
