Dr. Sameer Keole is trained in radiation oncology. Dr. Keole is a faculty member and practicing physician at the University of Florida College of Medicine, where he joined in January 2005, specifically for the pediatric service offered at their proton center, the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute ("UFPTI"). UFPTI opened for patient treatment in August 2006. Dr. Keole treated the 1st pediatric patient at UFPTI in September 2006, and since then, he has focused his clinical and research activities on pediatric, genitourinary, and central nervous system malignancies. Before joining UFPTI, Dr. Keole served as a staff physician at the Detroit Medical Center, which is affiliated with Wayne State University. At Wayne State, Dr. Keole worked with neutron irradiation, a cyclotron-produced uncharged particle. This sparked his interest in hadron therapy, particularly in the setting of pediatric and genitourinary malignancies. He has research interests in the application of image guidance in proton therapy, particurly in the setting of pediatric central nervous system tumors as well as in the role of protons for prostate cancer. |
