Samuel O. Thier, M.D. is Professor of Medicine and Professor of Health at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital. In December 2002, Dr. Thier retired from Partners HealthCare System, Inc. where he had been Chief Executive Officer since July 1996. Previously, he served as President of The Massachusetts General Hospital from 1994 through 1997 and as President of Brandeis University from 1991 to 1994. He has served as President of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, and he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a director of Merck & Co., Inc. and a Trustee of Cornell University and The Commonwealth Fund. Dr. Thier has been a Director since 1996. |
